Oh, What the Heck? What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Apparently Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush were all wrong. Four Democrat and five Republican leaders of this country didn’t know what they were doing. Meanwhile, our newly elected President in between solving the financial crisis, rescuing America’s relationship with Islam, taking over the automotive industry and solving the world’s energy problems has had the time to review the situation in Cuba and decided all of our leaders for the last 50 years were wrong. Forget the free elections we have been trying to get Castro to hold. Forget the political imprisonments of anyone who disagrees with the Castro regime. Forget the brutal dictatorship that’s been ruling the country for the past forty-seven years. Forget all that; President Obama has decided in his spare time that he has this one figured out as well, and the answer is to change course.

Now, I don’t know whether there is a case to be made to change our government’s position on Cuba or not. Perhaps there is an argument for trying a new approach. But here’s what I do know… A President who’s been in office less than 3 months (3 of the busiest months in American history!), and had little to no international experience prior to his election, should not be changing long-standing U.S. policy on a whim.
